This electronic library was a challenging commission because the administration’s complex program of interactive computer stations and lecture spaces had to be fitted into Daniel Libeskind’s design for The Jewish Museum.

The distinct character of Mr. Libeskind’s acute angled concrete shapes was left completely undisturbed. Our solution was to create a series of steel and wood forms, orthogonally arranged throughout the spaces so that they would be perceived in counterpoint to the building’s geometry. We let our structures appear to be cut by the museum walls, adding even more to the spatial drama. In order to pull off these deceptively simple formal ideas, extraordinary details were developed to house speakers, wire chaseways, computer hardware and moveable partitions.
